Warmer days and nights ahead for Northwest India

February 2, 2017 1:48 PM |

Delhi WeatherAs the winter enters into its final stage, the chill has already abated from several parts of Northwest India. All thanks to increase in temperatures, especially the minimums, during the last 48 hours.

Further, the weather is likely to get warmer during the next 24 hours across Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan and parts of West Uttar Pradesh. According to Skymet Weather, both the maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to increase significantly during the next 24 to 48 hours.

This rise in mercury can be attributed to the change in the wind pattern. Presently, a trough can be seen extending from North Arabian Sea up to Gujarat. Besides this, a fresh Western Disturbance is also approaching Jammu and Kashmir.

Both the systems have cut off the cold and dry northwesterly winds blowing from snow-clad Himalayas of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. These winds have now been replaced by southerly or southwesterly winds that are relatively warmer and humid in nature.

In wake of this, night temperatures have already increased over several places across Rajasthan. In fact, minimums in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi-NCR that have been settling below normal are now near normal temperatures.

These temperatures are likely to increase significantly by Friday morning. Meanwhile, clear sky conditions and bright sunshine across the plains will lead to further increase in day maximums.

Weathermen predict increase of at least three to four degrees in the temperature profile across the plains for the next 48 hours. Mercury is most likely to settle above normal during this time so much so that Delhi may witness maximums in mid 20s by Saturday.
