Western Disturbance to affect weather in North, Central India

December 27, 2013 12:52 PM |

A Western Disturbance is affecting weather in North India in terms of light snow in pockets at the higher reaches of Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. This system has induced a circulation over Delhi/NCR, Rajasthan and neighbouring areas. Delhi/NCR received light rain for a short duration but air operations were not hampered. Kota also recorded 4 mm of rain today morning.

The system is expected to enter northern parts of Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Uttar Pradesh today afternoon. Day temperatures will show a marginal fall due to clouding over these regions. Rain has brought a twist in the weather conditions of Rajasthan where minimums have shown a substantial rise. Churu jumped from 0.9 degrees on Thursday morning to 2.1 degrees today. Minimum in Jaipur also rose from 7.4 degrees to 12.2 degrees.

Fog spared northern plains on Friday morning. However, it engulfed Patna and Gorakhpur, where the visibility was 100 meters and nil, respectively. Pockets of East India including Agartala also witnessed dense fog today. Delhi is enjoying clear weather since the last couple of days but this respite seems temporary now. Rain has affected the wind patterns and strong northwesterly winds sweeping across entire North and East India will become light easterlies. Thereby, conditions will be favourable for formation of fog in Delhi and few pockets including Agra, Gwalior, Lucknow and Kanpur. Fog will not be widespread and spare parts of Punjab and Haryana, where we expect a blanket of white fog only after New Year.
