February 4, 2016 11:38 AM |

Zika Outbreak: Indian Scientists may have found first virus vaccineWhile PM Modi’s “Make in India” campaign has been much in vogue in the country, scientists from Hyderabad claim that have been developing the world’s first vaccine for the notorious and deadly Zika Virus. The good news doesn’t end here; these scientists say they don’t have one but two vaccines.

Just a few days ago, the Zika Virus was declared as a global health emergency by the World Health Organization. More than 20 countries in Latin America have been severely affected by the Zika Outbreak. Recently, a rare case of the sexual transmission of the disease has been found in Texas.

Global pharmaceutical companies have been working hard to find the ultimate cure for Zika. As per Bharat Biotech International Limited in Hyderabad, they have patented the vaccine for diseases caused by the Zika Virus.

Though the company has already developed two vaccines, testing them in animals as well as human trials will take a long time. The Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Biotech Ltd., Dr. Krishna Ella has already sought help from the government. Also, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has also offered a helping hand.

The Director General of ICMR has said that the vaccine candidates will be examined from a scientific point of view, and the feasibility of taking it forward will be analyzed. These vaccine candidates will serve as an excellent example of “Make in India”.
