Skymet records and shares live weather observation from its automatic weather stations, installed across the country, to support crop insurance. We also offer crop insurers a unique knowledge tool to see and download historical weather information and calculate risk for specific areas.
Skymet provides detailed weather data to insurance majors for weather based crop insurance claims settlement (WBCICS). The weather based Crop Insurance Scheme covers more than 20 million farmers, across 17 states covering 35 crops. Skymet maintains an ever growing network of 2500 ( largest in India) automated weather stations spread across all states that send live data every hour. Every data point is scrutinized for quality by a team of meteorologists before certifying and sharing with clients through monthly reports. Skymet works with all crop insurance companies in India. Skymet is the first to run a private weather network in Jammu & Kashmir and Assam.
Skymet has proven itself as an alternate source of yield estimates for crop insurance companies for yield based crop insurance schemes. The pilot Modified National Agriculture Insurance Scheme (MNAIS) is running in 50 districts in India. Skymet is already providing yield data for crops acoss the country. Our data is dense and accurate. Skymet makes yield data available at harvest. Every crop cutting experiment (CCE) carried out is photographed, geo tagged and documented. We also statistically model yield data.
Skymet offers a user interface (UI) tool to acsses historical weather data from 1951 onwards. Insurance companies use Weather Mine to understand risk and calculate actuarial premiums for definite regions (reference unit area). Weather Mine data is audited and includes rainfall, maximum temperature and minimum temperature. Data sets are available for all points across the country. The tool can be used to plot and download user defined climatology, exceedance, departure, pie charts, and time series data.
