More rains for Lahore, Islamabad, dry weather for Karachi

Pakistan recorded intermittent rains along with snow in the upper reaches on Monday that plummeted the temperatures and paved for the wintry chill to start setting in the country. During the last 24 hours, most of the northern provinces of the country recorded moderate to heavy rain and some amount of snow which even paralyzed the country’s traffic system.

These rains began lashing the country from Sunday night and continued almost throughout the day on Monday. Most parts of the nation witnessed traffic snarls that delayed the traveling time of the commuters. The rain and snow activity is anticipated to continue over the country.

In the last 24 hours, Rawalakot recorded 49 mm of rains, Murree 46 mm, Muzaffarabad 43 mm, Kotli 39 mm, Ghari Dupatta 36 mm, Cherat 33 mm, Sialkot 29 mm, Lower Dir 31 mm, Lahore 18 mm, and Peshawar witnessed 12 mm of rains.

In terms of snowfall, the upper reaches of the country such as Malanjabba witnessed 6 inches of snowfall followed by Kalam with 4 inches, Astore 3 inches, Murree 2 inches and Skardu saw 1 inch of snowfall activity.

The reason for the rain and snowfall activity over parts of Pakistan can be attributed to the Western Disturbance which is at present over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir. On account of this, the provinces of North Pakistan recorded rain and snow.

Moreover, rain and hailstorm along with snow in hills are expected to continue over the country for the next 24-48 hours. The provinces such as Peshawar, Kohat, and Malakand, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Islamabad are expected to receive scattered rain.

While cold day conditions are anticipated over Sindh and Balochistan. The provinces of Upper Sindh and plains of Punjab can even get to witness foggy mornings.
