Light to moderate rain occurred at many places over Sri Lanka. In fact, since the last few days, good rains are going on over the country as Northeast Monsoon is active there.

In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Tuesday, Samanala Wewa witnessed heavy rain to the tune of 119.5 mm. In the same span of time, Trincomalee and Batticaloa also recorded hefty showers.

Now a trough is extending from the Andaman Sea to Comorin area. In wake of this weather system, we expect light to moderate rains to continue until November 26. The low-pressure area which is presently persisting over the Andaman Sea will gradually intensify and will move towards Sri Lanka.

Due to this weather system, it is anticipated that heavy to extremely heavy rains will commence over Sri Lanka by November 26. Therefore on November 26 and 27 many parts of Sri Lanka particularly northern and central parts may face flood like situations due to torrential rains.

The rainfall activity is likely to subside by November 28. The east coast of the country will have rough to very rough sea condition between November 25 to 28 as the intensity will be more over the East coast of the country. Hence, precautions should be taken by fishermen and local people.
