The rain intensity over Sri Lanka has reduced significantly in the past a few days. In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Friday, Pottuvil recorded light rain to the tune of 2 mm and Kandy witnessed 2.3 mm of rain. In the same span of time, Trincomalee and Batticaloa recorded traces of rain.

However, the low pressure area which is persisting over Central Bay of Bengal and adjoining equatorial Indian Ocean will start showing its impact over Sri Lanka in the next 24 hours. As per weathermen at Skymet Weather rains will increase gradually over the country.

Initially, the rains will occur over the east coast of the country. Places like Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Pottuvil, Hambantota will start receiving moderate to heavy showers by tonight. Gradually most parts of the country will start receiving heavy to extremely heavy rains as the low pressure will move across Sri Lanka by the morning of November 26.

Hefty showers will continue until the morning of November 27. As the low pressure will move towards southeast Arabian Sea, rains will once again reduce significantly over Sri Lanka. However, during the next 48 hours, we expect flooding and water logging in many areas due to heavy rains.

There are chances of landslides also in hilly regions. The sea conditions will also be rough to very rough for the next two to three days near the Sri Lanka coast, hence precautions must be taken to avoid any untoward situations.
