Air Pollution in Delhi: Cause of 30,000 deaths every yearAir Pollution in Delhi has now become the cause of around 30,000 deaths every year, reports Centre for Science and Environment. Air pollution is not only one of the top killers in the world, but it is also the fifth leading cause thousands of deaths in India alone.

The Centre for Science and Environment has taken out a report called Body Burden 2015: State of India’s Health. The report focuses on the environmental linkage of public health threats. Every year, about 620,000 premature deaths are caused due to air pollution.

Sunita Narain, the director general of The Centre for Science and Environment, says that instead of focusing on the treatment, prevention should be the primary focus. Not only does the disease burden need to be reduced but the environment also needs to be improved. Also, saving money in private and public healthcare should be one of the key focuses.

Delhi has been named as the most polluted city in the world. The air quality in the national capital is way higher than the acceptable standard. There is an urgent need for cleaner technologies. Not only this, one of the most important thing that needs to be done is the revamp of the entire transport system in Delhi.

The report included analysis of air pollution, forest degradation, climate change, pesticides, lifestyle diseases, and sanitation. Not only does vehicular traffic need to be in check, but something needs to be done about the degradation of forests to combat the hazardous effects of Air Pollution in Delhi.
