Toddlers plea to Supreme Court for a pollution free DiwaliIf you are one of those who spend an insomnious Diwali night due to the continuous cracker noise, you may want to read more. This year, the Supreme Court may decide to reduce the cracker bursting window to five hours, from 5 pm to 10 pm.

Three men filed a petition on behalf of their children against using loud firecrackers on Diwali as well as Dussehra. The case was transferred to the social justice bench. The kids are aged between 6 and 14 and wish to grow up in a pollution free environment. They have also asked to restrain government agencies from issuing a license for selling crackers in Delhi-NCR.

Firecrackers are not only responsible for air and noise pollution, but they also result in the aggravation of respiratory diseases including asthma, retarded nervous systems, and various other lung diseases. The three toddlers Aarav, Zoya and Arjun, have submitted their petition to their lawyer Gopal Shankar Narayan.

Bangalore had adopted strict measures to curb pollution in Diwali 2013. This had led to a decline of 32% in the pollution levels as compared to the previous year. In 2005, the court had decided to limit the fire crackers bursting time to 10 pm. However, during Diwali the respiratory diseases increase by around 40 percent.

While leaders across the globe are taking a step towards making the world a better and pollution free place to live in, these kids have successfully done their part.
