Sugar prices has risen to Rs. 35,000 per tonne in July 2016 from Rs. 34,000 per tonne traded in June 2016 on the back of a decline in domestic production during 2016. Production is expected to down by 11% to 252 lakh tonnes. Prices are expected to remain firm in near term given that the sugar production is likely to decline further to 230-240 lakh tonnes in 2017.
