Video shows space debris crashing into the Indian Ocean

November 14, 2015 3:38 PM |

A mysterious space junk, which was earlier dubbed as a UFO, finally took a dive into the Indian Ocean on Friday, November 13. The object named ‘WT1190F’ crashed into the Indian Ocean at about 1:18 am EST, close to the southern coast of Sri Lanka.

NASA scientists were able to forecast the accurate date and time for the re-entry of the space debris. The object, upon its entry into the Earth’s atmosphere, lit up like a firework and burned up before making impact.

As stated by NASA, the man-made space debris was of no threat to anyone due to its small size (about 3 to 6 feet) and low density. The WTF re-entry was shared by the Astronomy Center of the UAE Space Agency.

Space observers were keen on tracking the path of the object’s entry. This was mainly due to the fact that WT1190F entered the Earth’s atmosphere at an angle similar to an asteroid from interplanetary space. The object was spotted a few weeks before its estimated impact date.
