Ireland Weather

Snow is likely to sweep across most parts of Ireland. Freezing temperatures will drop further along with strong winds leading to the first deep freeze of winter.

Weathermen have warned that these chilly weather conditions may turn more severe with temperatures plunging to below -1°C.

In wake of this, two weather warnings have been issued. A yellow wind warning has been issued for Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo, where gusts of up to 68 mph are expected.

A second yellow warning has been issued for the entire country, as extremely icy temperatures are foreseen from Wednesday night on.

Heaviest snowfall is anticipated over Connacht, North Leinster and West Munster particularly over the higher ground.

As per weather experts, it will be frosty and breezy with some sunny spells on Wednesday. Scattered showers are also forecast, particularly over the West and North, where they might turn wintry on higher ground.

Westerly winds will continue to blow over North Coast. Day temperatures will range from 4°C to 5°C in the North to 8°C to 9°C in the South. Scattered rains are expected to move inland overnight on the Atlantic Coast, turning gradually wintry with snow on higher ground.

A frontal wave is anticipated to pass across the South of Ireland, bringing sleety rain and snow to Munster later in the night.

Thursday will be a very cold day with wintry showers. Also, heavy snow is possible on lower levels, mostly across Connacht and Ulster. Day temperatures will settle between 1°C and 4°C.

Showers are likely to continue through Thursday night with widespread frost and ice. Blustery Northwest winds are likely to reach the coastal regions.

It will not be as bad as other parts of the country on Thursday but the strong winds from the North may bring wet snow and sleet to North Leinster.

Friday won’t be too bad as most of the wintry showers will confine to western and northern coasts at night with frost forming inland. Saturday and Sunday will be not as cold, with sunny spells on both days.

Early next week will be milder with a little rain but mainly dry weather.
