Atlantic Storms to bring damaging wind and rain across UK

January 25, 2017 1:35 PM |

Weather in UK

Strong Atlantic storms are likely to return to United Kingdom. This will lead to change in the weather pattern from late January into February. The shift in weather pattern is expected to be more significant from what has occurred across the country so far this year.

A high pressure area has developed over Central and Western Europe during January, which succeeded in shielding UK from any significant storm systems. Till now, no named windstorms have battered UK amid January. But, this significant change in weather pattern is likely to produce multiple named storms during the month of February.

The strongest storms are expected to bring damaging winds and flooding, leading to travel disruption.

Most parts of UK will witness an upsurge in stormy weather, while the degree of impact will vary across the country.

The most frequent and significant impacts are expected across western and southern areas. The high frequency of these storms may result in an increased risk for river and stream flooding.

Not much colder air is expected to settle over UK as the frequent Atlantic storms will bring milder air to the region.

Due to this, there will be fewer prolonged periods of fog and chilling nights compared to January. The barrage of storms is expected to continue into the middle of February.
