A depression that formed over the Northwest Arabian Sea and was moving towards the Oman coast, has weakened, according to global meteorologists.
However, this weakened system will continue to give rain over Oman in Al Sharqiya and Al Wusta region. Mostly southern parts of Oman will be affected by this system.
“The depression has moved slowly southwards, at a speed of 5km per hour during the past 12 hours, and weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area over the northwest and adjoining west central Arabian Sea at 07:00 hours (Oman time) on Wednesday,” the Indian meteorological department reported.
It will continue to weaken but will keep lingering in the sea. The system is expected to become insignificant after two days.
As per Oman Meteorological Department, this weather system had strengthened into a deep depression area early this week for a very short period.
The US Navy and Air Force Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) along with the Tropical Storm Risk Center predicted this cyclone to strike Oman at about 00:00 GMT on June 30. They also predicted that this cyclone may rope in sustained winds gusting at around 83 km/h which may be even higher in the area.
However, before making a landfall at Oman and creating havoc in terms of torrential rain and flood risk, the weather system fizzled out.
