A storm system is taking an unusual path from Italy to western Poland thereby, bringing snowfall to eastern Germany on Wednesday.
This northerly track of the storm will result in chilly air to remain over the region. This would cause precipitation in the form of snowfall instead of rain across the region. On Wednesday morning, snowfall will occur over Bavaria with a few light spells of snowfall as far west as Stuttgart. Snow accumulation will be mainly during the morning in Bavaria with snowfall easing off during the afternoon. Snow accumulation will total upto 3 inches across Bavaria, with higher accumulation over higher elevations. Snow accumulations from Saxony to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is expected to be upto two inches.
The band of snowfall will advance northwards towards Dresden during early afternoon and Berlin during the evening. This will make the evening commute in Berlin difficult. The snowfall will continue through Wednesday night across northeast Germany including Magdeburg, Berlin and Schwerin.
Although snow accumulation will be the highest over non-paved surfaces, the dipping temperatures during the evening will cause the roadways to be covered by snow. This will cause dangerous driving conditions.
From Thursday onwards dry and seasonable weather in expected across Germany.
