Updated on June 23, 2015: The death toll in Pakistan due to intense heatwave conditions has inflated to 400 now. The victims include men, women, and even children. The ongoing heatwave conditions have led to an emergency situation in major hospitals across the region.
Dead bodies were recovered from various parts of the region. Also, many of the patients receiving treatment for heatstroke, exhaustion, and dehydration also died in different hospitals. As per reports, different hospitals have treated some thousands of people suffering from heatwave conditions.
Update on June 22, 2015: While most parts in India are enjoying Monsoon as well as pre-Monsoon showers, neighboring nation Pakistan is reeling under heatwave conditions. As many as 130 people have died from severe heatwave conditions in Pakistan’s largest city Karachi and adjoining Sindh province.
Day temperatures in the region have consistently settled above 40°C, with Karachi recording a maximum temperature touching 45°C. In other parts of the Sindh province, temperature touched 48°C causing more deaths. All deaths have been attributed to heat stroke triggered due to heatwave conditions.
The absence of a Western Disturbance and induced cyclonic circulation over southern Pakistan and adjoining areas has caused an increase in day temperatures in the region. But the depression which formed over east central Arabian Sea, is now moving westwards and may re-curve in the northwest direction, and then later in the northeast direction. This system may give widespread clouding and rain at places close to South Pakistan coast.
Moist winds emanating from the system, along with clouding, will lead to a decrease in temperatures in the region over the area for next two days. Day temperature is expected to settle around 38°C and partly cloudy conditions will prevail over the region for the next 48 to 72 hours.
