Heavy rain warnings have been sounded in Wairarapa and the Tararua areas, as well as Marlborough and Kaikoura. Heavy rain is due to commence from Wednesday across the central parts of New Zealand. This spell of heavy rain is expected to last till Wednesday night and weaken gradually and move northwards.
The local authorities have warned people about rising water levels of rivers and streams. This could result in flash flooding in some areas. Rainfall amounts could be as much as 15 mm per hour in Wairarapa and Marlborough. Strong and gusty southeasterly winds are expected over the region.
A severe weather warning is in place for Hawke’s Bay which will experience heavy rains, particularly south of Napier. Maximum temperature is expected to settle close to 13°C in the region. The national capital Wellington is also likely to receive good rains. Most parts of North Island will be affected by wet weather. Auckland will experience cloudy weather and showers. The day temperature will settle close to 15°C in the city. In Hamilton showers will make its presence felt in the afternoon and the evening hours.
The upper region of the South Island can expect showers. Nelson will observe scattered showers and Christchurch will witness drizzle. The maximum temperatures in the region are expected to hover around 11°C.
However, down south in the west coast there will be ample sunshine and maximum will settle close to 17°C.This spell of rain is expected to ease out by the weekend.
