Hurricane Hermine bangs into Florida, causes flooding

Hermine, which is classified as number 1 hurricane has already made its landfall in Florida around 1:30 am EDT on Friday. After which, the state was lashed with flooding rains, destructive and strong winds and tornadoes.

The hurricane which is considered to be first of its kind in 11 years that has made its appearance near St. Marks, Florida. Prior to this, in the year 2005, Florida was banged with an intense tropical storm, named Hurricane Wilma.

Rainfall approximately measuring 10 inches is likely to lash the state which may cause flooding in urban and low-lying regions. Moreover, Florida Government has also declared an emergency state for nearly 50 counties.

Along with flooding, the storm may also bring in severe damaging thunderstorms gusting at a great speed. Moreover, within the rainbands, isolated tornadoes are also likely. Major cities that are at risk of flooding include Tampa and St. Petersburg, Florida.

Although Hermine is expected to weaken later and move farther inland on Friday, the risks warnings are still on over regions including Florida Gulf Coast, Florida's east coast, Georgia and up through North Carolina.

Several counties issued mandatory evacuation notices for Gulf Coast communities on the water or in low-lying areas. People particularly staying in the central and northern parts of Florida Peninsula along with East Florida Panhandle should be well prepared for tropical storm.

Power outages, flooded roads and airline commutations are all to be affected by the storm.

Further, Hermine is likely to continue north eastwards across parts of Georgia as well. Sea and surf conditions will be dangerous along the Southeast coast into Saturday.
