Ophelia is a fast-moving storm and has also gained strength quite quickly. However, the system is expected to weaken during the night and become a tropical storm in the next 24 hours or so. Parts of the United Kingdom will also be affected as the storm moves towards Ireland.

The eye of the storm will not reach Ireland until the next 24 hours. However, marine conditions will become as dangerous with heavy rains and winds well in advance. Potential flooding and some structural damage is also likely in many parts of the areas which Ophelia is expected to target in the coming days.

As per the UK Met, yellow wind warnings have been in effect for parts of North Ireland as well as some areas of Great Britain during the early half of the coming week.
