Monsoon rains are battering the country since past few days. Rain along with dust storm and gusty winds occurred at a number of places in North Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Karachi, Mirpurkhas divisions, while over scattered places in Multan, Zhob and Quetta divisions.

As of now, light to moderate rain are going on over South Sindh and adjoining Baluchistan. Karachi in Sindh and Lahore in Punjab province of Pakistan are also witnessing thundershowers.

The reason for these rain and thundershowers over Punjab Province is due to a Western Disturbance over Western Himalayas as well as an induced cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan and adjoining Punjab state of India.  The reason over southern parts of Pakistan wherein South Sindh and Baluchistan is due to the persistence of low pressure area over Saurashtra and Kutch and Northeast Arabian Sea and a trough extending from Central Pakistan to this system across Punjab and Sindh.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Wednesday, Lahore recorded 54 mm of rainfall, followed by Islamabad that witnessed 39 mm and Karachi 23 mm of rains.

As of now the intensity of these rain and thundershowers are moderate, but likely to decrease in the next 24 hours. Thus, mainly hot and humid weather is anticipated in most parts of the country. However, more rain-thundershowers with gusty winds over isolated places of Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Hazara divisions and South Sindh may continue.
