Pre-Monsoon Showers lash Parts of Pakistan

June 4, 2015 11:53 AM |

Pre-Monsoon Showers lash Parts of PakistanHeatwave conditions were prevailing over most parts of South-west and Central Pakistan. Till June 1, maximum temperatures were settling well above normal. Maximum in Nawabshah and Pad Idan were settling around 47°C.

However, during the last 48 hours good rain has occurred in the region taking the temperatures down in the high 30s. A Western Disturbance is over North Pakistan adjoining Jammu & Kashmir and a trough from this system is extending up to South Gujarat across West and South-west Pakistan.

Due to this system, widespread rain has occurred along this trough line. Nawabshah recorded 37 mm of rain, Pad Idan (36 mm), and Rohri and Jacobabad received 7 mm of rain, respectively. Some parts of adjoining Gujarat also received moderate rain. Bhuj witnessed 14 mm of rain.

Scattered rain will continue over South and Central Pakistan, for the next 24 hours. Thereafter, this trough will weaken due to eastward movement of Western Disturbance. By June 6, winds from the west and northwest will start blowing over the region which will again result in an increase in the temperatures.

However, the increase will be gradual and it will take some time for heatwave conditions to grip most parts of Pakistan. Monsoon normally reaches that area after mid-July  and so till that time, hot and sultry conditions will prevail over most parts of Pakistan.
