Southwest Monsoon has remained active over Bangladesh thus resulting in heavy to extremely heavy flood causing rains. The country has been witnessing torrential showers that had led to flooding like situation thereby reportedly claiming more than hundreds of lives and relocating many.

Due to these torrential showers, Brahmaputra and Padma Rivers along with their tributaries are swollen and are flowing beyond their danger mark. Moreover, the flood water from Assam and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal is also flowing down towards northern parts of Bangladesh.

Due to this, the northern districts of the country have been recording heavy rains. All these factors are responsible for such heavy rains in south and southeastern districts of the country that led to flood situation.

In the last 24 hours also, many parts of the country observed moderate to heavy rains. Dhaka recorded very heavy rains of 72 mm, Comilla 51 mm, Madaripur 41.8 mm, Patuakhali 30.4 mm, and Sitakundu recorded 28.5 mm of rains.

As per the weathermen at Skymet Weather, the cyclonic circulation over the Arakan Coast has moved in and is presently seen over North Bay of Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh. In the wake of this, the rainfall, especially in the south and southeast parts of the country, will reduce after 24 hours.

Moderate rain at many places with a few heavy spells can be expected in Bangladesh. However, the northern parts of Bangladesh will witness mainly light rains for the next 48 hours.

Though the intensity of rains will not be as heavy as the country has been witnessing, as the rivers are already over flooded and any addition of any rains over the area may worsen the situation further. But flooding rains are not expected to reoccur over the country as of now.
