Australia's famous national park at Uluru was shut down due to heavy rainfall and flash flooding. The famous landmark Ayers Rock witnessed waterfalls appearing all over it.
The Bureau of Meteorology in Australia described the massive storm as a rare weather occurrence which happens twice-a-century.
In the remote town of Kintore, flash floods enforced the emptying of dozens of residents. As per the reports more than 25 houses were flooded in the town. Papunya was another town which sits 250km from Alice Springs was also completely cut off, while the town square of Yulara was inundated.
Park authorities closed the Uluru-Kata Tjuta national park at 09:00 local time on Boxing Day quoting the risk of flooded roads and potential car accidents. Parks Australia said that they were continually monitoring the situation but it was not yet safe to reopen.
"There's a lot of water … coming off the rock and what that does is just channels across the ring road around Uluru, some of those roads there were flooded by about 300-400mm of rain. Quite spectacular but very hazardous road conditions," park manager Mike Misso told ABC.
