Updated on July 17, 2015: Heavy to very heavy rain has been recorded in the northern parts of Pakistan, particularly over the hilly region and the areas adjacent to West Punjab. These rains are a result of a strong Western Disturbance, which is at present over the eastern parts of Jammu and Kashmir in India. Good rains have been observed over parts of India including Jammu and Kashmir. In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Jhelum has received 226 mm of rain, Kakul (200 mm), Dir (130 mm), Lahore (104 mm), and Saidu Sharif (140 mm).
Good rainfall will continue over North and parts of Central Pakistan during the next 24 to 36 hours. However, the gap will be short and rains will again return to the aforementioned areas. Another Western Disturbance which is over North Afghanistan will give rain over the region.
Updated on July 16, 2015: The northern parts of Pakistan and most areas in Bangladesh are likely to observe a rainy Eid this year. Let’s take a detailed look at the weather conditions prevailing in these two countries.
Weather in Pakistan
A Western Disturbance which is present over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir has given rain at some places in the northern parts of Pakistan. In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Chitral received 27 mm of rain and Drosh recorded 4 mm of rain. Karachi also observed traces of rain.
While moving away, this Western Disturbance will continue to give scattered rain over the northern areas of Pakistan. Places including Kakul, Peshawar, Dir, Murree and Islamabad are expected to receive rain on Eid. The intensity of the rainfall will be light to moderate but the sky will be covered with clouds.
This will make it difficult to see Eid moon on Saturday. However, clouds will be in patches and the moon will be visible occasionally. On the contrary, South and Central Pakistan will observe clear sky conditions and will remain dry.
Weather in Bangladesh
From the last 48 hours, most parts of Bangladesh has received heavy to very heavy rain. In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Kutubdia has recorded 77 mm of rain, Khepupara (96 mm), Mymensigh (74 mm), and Sylhet received 55 mm of rain.
Cloudy conditions are expected to prevail over the region. However, during the late hours of the evening the sky will become partly cloudy. Residents of Bangladesh may find it difficult to see the Eid moon due to the cloudy sky conditions. Moderate to heavy rain is expected to continue for the next 48 hours.
Furthermore, the intensity of rainfall will decrease in Bangladesh as a low pressure area is likely to form over North Bay Of Bengal which will divert the moisture laden winds away from Bangladesh resulting in the decline of rainfall activity.
