Some parts of the world are experiencing severe weather conditions. Parts of the United States have been witnessing heavy rain and flash floods. Torrential rains have lashed parts of China causing deaths and leaving many homeless. Lastly, the first tropical depression has formed far from the coast of Mexico.
Let’s take a detailed look at the severe weather across the globe
United States: Eastern parts of the United States have been observing heavy rain for the last seven days. The worst affected states have been Texas and Oklahoma. Persisting rain have resulted in deadly floods claiming many lives. In Wimberley, over 1400 houses were damaged. More than 13 people are still missing after flash floods ravaged the entire region. The area is still under the flash flood watch as there is a 70% chance of thunderstorms.
China: The past two weeks have been difficult for South China. The devastating floods across South China have claimed the lives of more than 50 people. More than 15000 homes have been destroyed. Although rains in China during this time is a seasonal affair and the area has witnessed heavy rain in the past. But the region has not witnessed rains in such severity. More than 250000 people have been moved into temporary homes. Over thousands of people have been affected by power and water supply cuts.
Meanwhile, Jiangxi Province in East China observed rain triggered landslides, which claimed four lives. Heavy rain in the region affected nearly 29 counties in the province on Wednesday. Flood threat in South China still remains.
East Pacific: Hurricane season for the Atlantic and Eastern Pacific starts from May and lasts till November. Season’s first tropical depression has now strengthened into a tropical storm. Tropical storm Andres is most likely to continue strengthening over the weekend. The tropical storm can even become a Category 1 or 2 hurricane with high winds in South California as it remains on warm ocean waters.
The tropical storm is expected to keep gaining strength on the peripherals over Mexico. But, as the storm takes the route over cooler waters. By early next week, the tropical storm will most likely move closer to the southern coastline of Mexico providing some rain and wind in the region.
