Typhoon Khanun has finally made landfall around 3:25 am (local time) in Xuwen County, Southern China's Guangdong Province today, with winds gusting at a speed of 101 km/hr. In wake of the system, rains have started lashing the area. However, until now, no damage or casualties have been reported.

As per weathermen, Khanun has weakened into a tropical storm around 7 am. Yesterday, nearly 368,000 people had been displaced from the areas that were bound to be most affected. In addition to this, schools and ferry ports were also ordered to shut down.

Now, tropical storm Khanun is likely to head towards Vietnam to Cambodia this week, bringing heavy rain and the threat of floods from tomorrow until Thursday.

Provinces in central lowland and highland areas are anticipated to record moderate to heavy showers until Thursday. Coastal areas will also record spells of rain until Wednesday. People are advised to exercise caution.

Due to long coastline, the country of Vietnam is inclined to destructive storms and flooding. In fact, last month only, a typhoon wreaked havoc across the central provinces.

This typhoon has come about two months after Typhoon Hato that was a massive storm, which inflicted Hong Kong and claimed lives in nearby Macau. The regions witnessed widespread flooding and disruption.
