July 24, 2013 12:34 PM |

There seems no respite from the heavy rain that the people of Mumbai have been witnessing for last couple of days as weather analysts have predicted more rain in the city and the Konkan region in next 72 hours.

After 200mm of rain on Tuesday the city is expected to receive over 100 mm of rain today. There is also alert of a high tide in the afternoon which may deluge several parts of the city coupled with heavy rain.

Keeping this in mind, the municipal bodies have advised people to stay indoors and avoid travelling today. Heeding to the warnings, some schools and offices have closed for the day.

Meanwhile, local trains that are considered to be the lifeline of Mumbai are running late. Trains on all three lines-Central, Western and Harbour lines are running late by almost 20 minutes.

There are also reports of waterlogging at several places in the city including Hindmata, Napean Sea Road, Grant Road and Lokhandwala Complex.

This intermittent heavy rain has already broken some records. Santa Cruz and Kolaba have received July’s heaviest rainfall. While Santa Cruz has received 215.6 mm of rain, Colaba recorded 218.6 mm.
