Delhi Witness Heaviest Rainfall Of This Month: Crosses Monthly Normal: More Showers Ahead
Parts of Delhi received the heaviest rainfall of this month so far. Some pockets in South Delhi were literally deluged. Base station Safdarjung recorded the highest daily rainfall of 68mm yesterday. Very intense showers, albeit for a short duration, flooded the roads and streets alike, accumulating knee-deep water. The Lodhi Road Office registered 72.4mm of rainfall. The highest rainfall of 130mm was recorded at Ridge—the first three-digit downpour of this month. More showers are expected during this week and may spill over to the next one as well.
The low-pressure area is now lying over Northeast Rajasthan and adjoining Northwest Madhya Pradesh. The associated cyclonic circulation is strong and extends up to mid-tropospheric levels. This system has caused very heavy rainfall over the Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh, and the streak of swamp extended up to Delhi and parts of Uttar Pradesh. The weather system remains powerful enough to result in severe weather for the next two days before it weakens.
The monsoon trough at the surface level is passing through Delhi. It tilts slightly southwards with height, and this is quite a favourable situation for lashing more rain and thundershowers over Delhi/NCR. The low-pressure area will move westwards and weaken on 01st August 2025 while positioned over the northern parts of Rajasthan. Subsequently, the system will take a recourse toward the north and break up over the foothills of Uttarakhand and West Uttar Pradesh on 02nd August.
The monsoon trough will remain in close proximity to Delhi till 01st August and start shifting north of the capital city the next day. The diffused remnants of the low-pressure area will keep monsoon activity alive over West Uttar Pradesh and the lower parts of Uttarakhand for the subsequent 3–4 days. Delhi will remain on the periphery of active weather pockets. The capital city and suburbs will continue to have intermittent spells of rain and thundershowers, lasting till mid-week next. Temperatures will remain checked in the low 30s. The month of August will start on a rainy note for Delhi/NCR.
