Delhi has observed mild pre-monsoon activity during the last one week. Minimal rainfall, normal temperatures hovering around 40°-41°C, increased humidity, and clear skies remained the highlights of the last seven days. Meteorological conditions are conducive for typical pre-monsoon thunderstorm-dust storms, albeit for short durations and with least intensity, for the rest of the week.

No heavy weather activity in terms of rain, showers, or thunderstorm-dust storms is expected till Saturday, 24th May 2025.

There are two small-scale, low-level cyclonic circulations close to Delhi. One circulation is marked over North Punjab and Central Pakistan, and another one over South Haryana, Northeast Rajasthan, and Southwest Uttar Pradesh.

An east-west trough, joining these two circulations, is running in the close proximity of Delhi and extending up to West Bengal, across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand.

This feature will remain in place till the end of this week. Under its influence, pre-monsoon activity will pick up all along the Indo-Gangetic plains. Delhi remains on the fringes of the main system. Therefore, no heavy weather activity is likely for the national capital. Still, isolated development of tall convective clouds, aided by the local heat, could possibly trigger a thunderstorm-dust storm with strong winds for a short duration. Whenever there is any such activity, it will occur in the evening hours.

The next three days will be more susceptible to light thunderstorm-dust storms. Wind pattern will reverse to easterly and, therefore, become more humid. More such activity, with increased intensity and spread, is likely on and after 25th May, Sunday.

A heat wave is unlikely in the month of May, and the temperatures will remain checked at around 40°C. The month of May will possibly get over without any heat wave in Delhi. Base station Safdarjung has recorded the highest day temperature of 42.3°C on 16th May 2025. This is likely to go on record as the highest temperature for this month.
