After the weekend downpour, Delhi has generally remained quiet on the weather front. Day temperatures have stayed below normal by 5°-7°C at most observatories of NCR. Base station Safdarjung recorded a day high of 35.1°C, over 5°C below the normal. Humidity levels have risen with the change in the wind pattern to easterly. Mercury is expected to rise today but still remain under 40°C by a decent margin.

There is a cyclonic circulation over North Rajasthan and adjoining parts of Punjab and Haryana. This feature is keeping the presence of the east-west trough very close to Delhi. These conditions are likely to persist for the next 3-4 days. Thereafter, the trough will shift to the north, possibly marking the return of westerly winds. The weather activity in the neighbouring areas of Delhi during this week will arrest any abrupt rise of mercury during this week.

Delhi has recorded the highest temperature of 42.3°C during this month, on 16th May 2025.   It is unlikely to exceed this mark in the remaining days of the month. If so, then this will be the second-lowest temperature of the month since May 2009. The lowest May temperature was 41.6°C, recorded on 05 May 2021.

Meteorological conditions favour an increase in the pre-monsoon activity for Delhi and its suburbs. However, the temperature, which is an important trigger for any stormy conditions, is unlikely to shoot up today. Despite the nearness of the trough line, the chances of having a thunderstorm-dust storm are minimal today. The conditions become stronger tomorrow and amplify further for the subsequent two days. So, there is a likelihood of a thunderstorm-dust storm tomorrow, and the activity becomes more probable on 29th and 30th May 2025. Typical pre-monsoon activity will take a ‘break’ thereafter, which may last for 4-5 days.
