Pre-monsoon rain and thunderstorm activities across Kerala have been quite satisfactory so far. Between March 1st and April 27 Kerala is rain surplus by 39%. The best part is that, despite consistent rainfall, there have been no reports of flooding or severe weather disruptions. Most of the rain has been light to moderate in intensity, with occasional isolated heavy spells, though these heavier showers have not caused any significant damage.

Looking ahead, Skymet believes that Kerala's skies will not turn dry anytime soon. Scattered showers are expected to continue over the state in the coming days. A north-south trough, extending from central India down to southern Tamil Nadu across interior Karnataka, will persist and help boost cloud formation over Kerala. This trough, along with moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea, will support ongoing rainfall activities.

Although the official monsoon onset over Kerala usually happens around June 1st, there is still about a month to go. However, the pre-monsoon showers are likely to continue at regular intervals, ensuring a pleasant and wet buildup to the arrival of the southwest monsoon.
