31 July, 2015 Monsoon Update: Skymet Weather

July 30, 2015 7:58 PM |

Cyclonic storm Komen which had made landfall in Bangladesh on Thursday has now  weakened into a depression. The system is moving in northwest direction, triggering heavy to very heavy rains over West Bengal and North Odisha. While it will also give good rainfall over parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and East Uttar Pradesh. Squally winds with the speed of 50 to 70 kmph cannot be ruled out.

With this flood threat has now shifted from parts of West India to East India.

Meanwhile, people of Rajasthan and Gujarat can now breathe a sigh of relief, as intensity of rain has reduced significantly. The well-marked low pressure area over Rajasthan has weakened and shifted over north Rajasthan and will be merging with the Monsoon trough soon.

This system has pulled the eastern arm of the Monsoon trough northwards, which is now running closer to the foothills across entire Indo Gangetic plains, depression and further up to Bay of Bengal. Accordingly we can expect weather activity all along the trough line.

Up in hills, a fresh Western Disturbance can be seen approaching North India and is presently stationed over North Pakistan and adjoining areas. On Friday, we can expect scattered light rain over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.

Another trough can be seen extending from Western disturbance up to low pressure area. Thus with the interaction of these two systems along with the oscillation of Monsoon trough will give scattered light to moderate rain over North Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh on Friday. While, good rainfall can be observed over Uttarakhand.

Moving down south, the off-shore trough along the West Coast continues to persist. However, it is more marked over Konkan & Goa and coastal Karnataka, giving moderate showers over both the regions. While, Kerala will receive light rain only.

Rest parts of the country will witness light Monsoon activity on Friday.
