Cyclone Ockhi update: Very severe Cyclone Ockhi to recurve towards Gujarat, weaken gradually

Very severe cyclonic storm Ockhi has further moved in north-northwest direction during the last 24 hours.

Let’s take a quick look at the rainfall figures recorded across Southern India: Karaikal 87 mm, Thiruvananthapuram 24 mm, Punalur 12 mm, Kochi 2 mm. At present, Ockhi lies over southeast and adjoining east central Arabian Sea, about 420 km west-northwest of Amini Divi, 880 km south-southwest of Mumbai, 1090 km south-southwest of Surat.

Now the system will recurve in north-northeast direction towards Gujarat. It is expected to start weakening gradually into severe cyclone and then depression before reaching the Gujarat Coast.

During the next 24 hours, Kerala would record only light rains with one or two moderate spells, while showers of moderate intensity will continue at many places over North Lakshadweep. Meanwhile, scattered light rains are expected over Tamil Nadu.

We can expect rains to commence over Coastal Maharashtra and Gujarat by the night of December 4, but these showers will be of light intensity only.

By December 5, the intensity of rains will increase, and then light to moderate rains with one or two heavy spells are likely over Gujarat region, while few light to moderate showers are possible over North Coastal Maharashtra. Some rainfall is also expect over Mumbai on December 4 and 5.
