Monsoon Forecast for July 5, 2018: Heavy rain in Mumbai, Konkan and Goa, Coastal Karnataka, South Gujarat

The western part of the axis of Monsoon trough continues to pass through Sri Ganganagar, Hissar, Shahjahanpur, Gorakhpur and the eastern part of the trough lies close to the foothills of the Himalayas.

During the last 24 hours, Monsoon remained vigorous over Punjab, Uttarakhand, Haryana, North Rajasthan, South Gujarat, Konkan, Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya. Active Monsoon conditions were seen over South Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and remaining northeastern states.

Meanwhile, normal Monsoon conditions were observed over Vidarbha, Marathwada, Coastal Karnataka, North Kerala and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Major rainfall contribution came from Cherrapunji that recorded heavy rain to the tune of 225 mm, followed by Siliguri 150 mm and Mumbai 118 mm.

As on July 3, the countrywide cumulative rainfall is deficient by 7%. Division-wise, South and Northwest India are surplus by 11% and 15%, respectively. While East & Northeast and Central India remained deficit by 23% and 9%, respectively.

During the next 24 hours, Konkan & Goa, Coastal Karnataka, South Gujarat, Saurashtra, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam and Meghalaya will witness vigorous Monsoon conditions with heavy to very heavy rains.

Monsoon will remain active over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal, all these places would see moderate to heavy rains.
Meanwhile, normal Monsoon conditions will prevail barring parts of West Rajasthan.
