Beginning with the cyclone news, the deep depression over South-west Bay of Bengal has now intensfied into a cyclonic storm ‘Phethai’. The system continues to move in north-northwest direction towards Andhra Pradesh coast. Chances are also there that it might intensify into severe cyclone as well in another 36 hours.
In wake of this, scattered rains are expected to commence over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Coastal Tamil Nadu by the morning of December 15. Rain intensity will gradually increase with more impact over Andhra Pradesh that would see moderate to heavy rains with few very heavy rains for another two days. Chennai as well as north coastal districts of Tamil Nadu may receive moderate rains.
Sea conditions will be rough to very rough off and along the coast of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha. Rains would be accompanied with squally winds to the tune of 40-50 kmph in coastal areas.
Telangana may also witness isolated rains. Whereas, South Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka will be almost dry.
Moving to North India, winters are all set to tighten the grip over northwestern plains with continuous flow of chilly and dry winds from Himalayas. We expect minimums to fall further by a degree a or 2. Meanwhile, weather will become dry and sunny over the hills and northern states of the country.
Moderate to dense fog is expected in parts of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh.
These cold winds are also reaching up to Central India. Thus, minimums are expected to drop further over Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha, while it will be marginal fall in night temperatures over Rajasthan and Gujarat.
Lastly in east/northeast India, the weather of the region will remain dry and cool. Minimums of Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha and parts of Jharkhand may increase marginally due to humid winds from Bay of Bengal.
Shallow fog and mist can be seen over parts of Bihar, Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal during morning hours.
