Weather Forecast for May 20: Heavy rain in Northeast, South Karnataka including Bengaluru, heatwave in Rajasthan

Beginning with the weather over North India a Western Disturbance is moving away across East Jammu and Kashmir. Thus, activity would reduce over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand as well as the northwestern plains of North Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh. In fact, the temperatures would rise over these regions. Some parts of Rajasthan may also observe heatwave conditions.

Moving to the weather in East and Northeast India a cyclonic circulation is seen East Assam and a trough is extending from Jharkhand to Arunachal Pradesh across Bangladesh and North Bengal. Another trough is extending from Sub Himalayan West Bengal to Myanmar.

Therefore, we expect scattered light to moderate rain with isolated is expected over Nagaland, Manipur Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya and North Odisha. Scattered rain may also occur over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Gangetic West Bengal, and remaining parts of Odisha. Isolated activity is also likely over Bihar and Jharkhand.

Further in Central India, a trough is extending from East Madhya Pradesh to Rayalaseema across Telangana. A cyclonic circulation lies over East Madhya Pradesh. Thus, isolated activity is expected at Southeast Madhya Pradesh, South Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha. Meanwhile, heatwave will continue to prevail in parts of Vidarbha, Gujarat, West Madhya Pradesh and South and West Rajasthan. In fact, in Vidarbha, heatwave is expected to intensify.

Lastly in South India, a cyclonic circulation lies Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman Sea. Another cyclonic circulation is persisting over Southwest Bay of Tamil Nadu coast. In wake of these systems, South Andaman and Nicobar may witness good rains during the next 48 hours.

South Tamil Nadu, Kerala, South Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh may also witness scattered light to moderate rainfall activity. Isolated heavy activity may also occur over South Karnataka including Bengaluru. Isolated thunderstorm activity over Telangana cannot be ruled out. However, heatwave like conditions will prevail over northern parts of Telangana.
