Weather Forecast for May 24: Rain in Kerala, Karnataka; heatwave in Delhi, Haryana

Cyclone Mekunu has intensified into a severe cyclone and is expected to further intensify into a very severe cyclone by tomorrow. However, it will not impact the Indian sub-continent in any way.

Beginning with the weather over North India the feeble Western Disturbance over North Jammu and Kashmir would give isolated light rains may occur over the state. But weather of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will remain dry. Plains of North India i.e. Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, North Rajasthan and Delhi would continue to experience dry and hot weather conditions. Heatwave will continue to grip parts of Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi.

Moving to the weather in East and Northeast India a trough is seen extending from East Uttar Pradesh to Meghalaya. Therefore, we expect light to moderate rain and thundershowers with one or two heavy spells over the northeastern states. Good rains will continue over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Scattered rains are also likely over Odisha.

Meanwhile in Central India due to the trough running across Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha we expect light rains to occur over Southeast Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha. Heatwave will continue at many places over Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh and few places of Gujarat and Vidarbha.

Lastly in South India as a north-south trough is passing through Interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. We expect light to moderate rains to continue over Karnataka, Kerala and parts of Tamil Nadu. Scattered rains are possible over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and isolated over Telangana.
