Indore, Bhopal top the list of cleanest cities of India: 2017

Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu announced the names of 25 cities that have been voted by citizens on Thursday. According to the survey conducted by the government of India, India’s cleanest city came out to be Indore in Madhya Pradesh whereas the second position was secured by Bhopal, another city of the state. The minister added that the dirtiest city is in Uttar Pradesh – Gonda, which is a major concern.

The third position was secured by the coastal port city of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.  Surat in Gujarat managed to attain the fourth place.

Whereas last year’s winner Mysore in Karnataka has dropped to the fifth spot. This is the second survey conducted to know the effects of  Swachh Bharat Abhiyan across the country.

The union mister even cited that Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Gujarat, and Chhattisgarh emerged as the leaders. But Uttar Pradesh, being the most populous state of the country failed terribly in the survey.

The common people were given a feedback form which was the tool used for the survey. The results have been evaluated using assessment scores, data submitted by local bodies about sanitation and cleanliness. According to the government, around 80 per cent people mentioned in the survey that there is progress in cleanliness over the past two years.

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is an initiative by the Government of India.The mission aims at achieving new milestones every day. The campaign’s mission is to clean up India, make toilets for public. India needs approximately 11.1 crore toilets and so far the government has fruitfully built more than three crore toilets.

To attain Prime Minister Narendra Modi's clean India mission by 2019 the government has surveyed 434 cities and towns to amount the progress of Swachh  Bharat Abhiyan.
