PSLV Launch: ISRO sends Cartosat-2 with 30 Nano satellites into orbit

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has added another feather to its cap. Today morning, India's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) launched the Cartosat-2 series satellite from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh for earth observation along with 30 co-passenger satellites.

The 712 kg Cartosat-2 series satellite for earth observation along with 243 kg of 30 co passengers satellite into a 505-km polar sun synchronous orbit. Along with a Nano satellite from India, there are 29 Nano satellites from 14 countries in the form of the co-passenger satellites including the ones from United States of America, Belgium, Austria, Chile, Finland, Czech Republic, Italy, Germany, France, Japan, Lithuania, Slovakia as well as Latvia.

The mission held great significance for the state of Tamil Nadu as the students from Nurool Islam University in Kanyakumari had indigenously developed a satellite carried by the PSLV. The satellite namely NIUSAT has been designed for the main purpose of providing multi-spectral imagery for the monitoring of agricultural crop along with disaster management support applications.

Updates from the ISRO centre state that not only have all the 31 satellites been successfully separated but the PSLV-C38 has also been able to successfully put Cartosat-2 Series and 30 other satellites into orbit.

The purpose of launching international customer nano satellites is the commercial arrangements between commercial arm of ISRO, Antrix Corporation Limited (Antrix) as well as International customers.

Cartosat-2, which is a remote sensing satellite provides high-resolution scene specific spot imagery. With the resolution of a minute 0.6 m, it will have the ability to spot objects even within a square of 0.6 m by 0.6 m.

After the satellite becomes functional, it is to be handed over to the Defence Forces.
