How the Weather Impacts a Tennis Match

Tennis is a sport played all over the world in a variety of different conditions. We also have different courts that the game is played on, including those indoors. However, when the game is played outside, one of the factors you have to consider when looking at a game is the weather forecast.

The weather can have a big impact on the game and this is the case on any tennis surface, though it never really gives an advantage to either player because both are affected in the same way. What it can do is put a bigger emphasis on fitness, which may give one player the advantage but weather conditions affect both players the same.

The Temperature During a Tennis Game

The vast majority of tennis players will have been affected by hot weather in one way or another in the past. Tennis games can last for as long as three hours, and on top of that, tournaments are usually played throughout the day so some players will have to play when the heat is at its hottest.

This gives tough conditions for anyone trying to play tennis regardless of the type of tennis court it is played on. Playing on a hard court where the heat will stick around more will make this even tougher. In places where the weather is hot, games can be the toughest on players.

While we are talking about hot weather, the tennis balls used in games should also be mentioned. The balls are hollow and filled with gas if the temperature rises this will expand and make them harder, meaning they bounce more, and the game is played at a faster pace.

Those who like fast-paced action, especially players with a good forehand, are worth following in these conditions if you like to bet with tennis betting sites on the action taking place.

Wind at Tennis Games

Ask any tennis player what weather they like the least and they will tell you the wind. This makes it very difficult to play, especially when the wind is gusting around the court and not blowing in any particular direction.

From controlling shots to having problems with the serve, wind can affect a range of shots that are played by tennis players. When you are playing into the wind and facing a strong wind, the shots are harder to hit and require more power to get them through.

This means players will be focusing on their shot speed, which could take away some of their accuracy. The opposite happens for players who are playing with the wind behind them, they don’t need to put as much power into their shot, because the wind will help them. This means if anything, they can focus even more on their accuracy down the lines.

Perhaps the toughest part of playing in the wind is its unpredictability, players can never really know when and how the wind is going to blow while they are playing. To succeed, players need to remain focused and try their best to capitalise on the moments when the wind is helping them, while trying to win points when things are against them.
