Amritsar is a historically and religiously important city back at the Northwestern state of Punjab, lying just 28 kms far from the Pakistan border. Each year people from all across the world flock in to be the witness to the grandeur of the city. The city has a lot to offer to people who like to dig back in time, with its overflowing history connecting to the British India. Also, the town attracts foodies, religious seeker, art enthusiasts alike. Not to mention, the famous ‘Golden Temple’ is not all that the city has to offer!

Winters

During this time of the year the temperatures remain in the range of 4 to 19°C. Winter in Amritsar starts in November and lasts till March. January is the coldest month of the season. This is the best time to visit Amritsar.

Summers

The hot summer months continue from April to June and temperature during this time rises even up to 49° C. Summers are a bit harsh here with the sun shining at its peak during the afternoon hours. Travelers generally avoid this season because of the scorching heat.

Monsoon

Amritsar experiences monsoon from July to October. The weather is pleasant during this time of year and rainfall is moderate. It gives much relief to the people after the scorching heat of the summer. The moderate climate makes the weather cool and pleasant.

Things to do and places to visit in Amritsar

Apart from the much-revered Golden Temple, the place houses a lot more to it. Within the Golden Temple complex, the Sikh Museum contains paintings, manuscripts & weapons. A free langar at the Golden Temple is one in a lifetime sight that feeds tens of thousands every day. Stalls around the city sell traditional embroidered clothing and shoes- ‘Ambarsari Chappal’, ‘Ambarsari Gotta’ are a few famous names. Even the ‘Ambarsari Jewelry’ has some definite distinction to it.

Hall-Bazaar

Here in the city you will find some very eminent museums. Jallianwala Bagh itself has a story to tell- it’s a memorial garden remembering the victims of a 1919 British army massacre.

The elaborate daily changing-of-the-guard ceremony at the Wagah border with Pakistan has become a popular spectacle.
