In the past 24 hours, Monsoon rains in Maharashtra have shown great signs of improvement particularly in Konkan & Goa and the adjoining Madhya Maharashtra region. While rains in the Vidarbha and Marathwada regions have remained very light.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, Ratnagiri recorded 46.3 mm of rains, Mahabaleshwar 31.2 mm, Ahmednagar 22.4 mm, Aurangabad 18 mm, Akola 11 mm and Yeotmal and Sangli recorded 9 mm and 5 mm of light rainy spells respectively. In contrast with these rains, Mumbai had to manage with very light traces of 0.3 mm of rains only.

As per Skymet Weather, these rains can be attributed to a trough which is extending from Madhya Maharashtra to the southeast Arabian Sea across interior Karnataka.

At present, the rainfall statistics for Konkan & Goa region is normal. While Madhya Maharashtra is rain surplus by 13%. On the contrary, both Vidarbha and Marathwada regions are rain deficient wherein Vidarbha is the bearing the most deficiency of 28%.

However, now, a cyclonic circulation is also expected to form over South Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Vidarbha region and a trough will extend up to interior Karnataka across Marathwada. In the wake of this, parts of Maharashtra can brace for another rainy spell for another 2-3 days.

Thus, Ahmednagar, Satara, Kolhapur, Parbhani, Nagpur, and Nashik may get to see some good rains. While Pune and Mumbai will have to manage with light to isolated moderate showers.

These good rainy spells are sure to narrow down the rain deficiency prevailing over Vidarbha and Marathwada regions. After 3 days, on and off rains will continue over Marathwada, Vidarbha and adjoining Madhya Maharashtra throughout the week.

Thus, now the dry weather conditions will take a backseat at least this week and the weather will become comfortable. Moreover, Marathwada and Vidarbha that were reeling under drought like conditions will be benefited. These rains will be a huge relief for the people of Maharashtra.
