As per Skymet Weather, these rain and thundershowers can be attributed to an east-west trough that is extending from East Uttar Pradesh up to Arunachal Pradesh. There is also another trough running from sub-Himalayan West Bengal to Northwest Bay of Bengal. Besides this, southerly moist winds from Bay of Bengal are blowing over the region.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Wednesday, Cherrapunji recorded a whopping 245 mm of rainfall, followed by Dhubri 64 mm, North Lakhimpur 62 mm and Guwahati 51 mm.

Other districts that recorded Monsoon showers include Goalpara 34 mm, Shillong and Aizwal 26 mm, Agartala 16 mm, Kohima and Silhar 14 mm.
