A trough is extending from East Uttar Pradesh up to North Coastal Tamil Nadu. In wake of this, humid winds have been blowing over the region, which has led to formation of convective clouds over Chennai and nearby areas. As per weathermen, the trough is likely to persist for another 48 hours, which will keep the weather conditions conducive for rains over Chennai till Thursday.

However, these showers will not be widespread in nature and city could witness short and sharp spells of rains.
Though temperatures may subside marginally but they will bring long term relief from the ongoing sultry weather conditions.

Being a rain shadow area, North Tamil Nadu including Chennai do not record much rains during the Southwest Monsoon. Only time when the region records some rains are due to the development of any weather system in near vicinity, especially in Southwest Bay of Bengal.

However, in this season, neither we have seen formation of any significant weather till now nor we foresee any system approaching in coming days.
