June 17, 2016 1:41 PM |

rain in Amritsar The plains of North India including Punjab, Haryana and Delhi-NCR continue to receive on and off pre-Monsoon activities.

The city of Golden Temple, Amritsar, has received 31.6 mm of rainfall during last 24 hours. This spell of rain and thundershowers could be attributed to the induced upper air cyclonic circulation seen over Punjab and adjoining areas of North Rajasthan and Haryana.

So far rains have been patchy in the city. Good showers were witnessed two times this month – yesterday and on June 15 (18 mm). Overall the city has received 50.8 mm of rainfall in June, against the monthly normal of 57.6 mm.

We expect some more rains in the coming days and the city could surpass the monthly average rainfall. The intensity of rainfall will increase between June 21 and 23. Till then Amritsar will receive only light thundershowers.

Temperatures in Amritsar

Earlier this month the city had seen day temperature cross the 40-degree mark. However, the mercury has come down to just about higher thirties now. Even minimums have come down from higher twenties to lower twenties now.
