pre monsoon rain in Chhattisgarh

The southern districts of Chhattisgarh, particularly Jagdalpur and adjoining areas have been recording rain and thundershower activities since the last one month.

These rains continued during the last 24 hours as well, wherein many districts such as Durg and Mana have reported scattered rains.

According to Skymet Weather, the southern districts of Chhattisgarh have been observing pre- Monsoon activities for quite some time now. This is due to the presence of a prominent Trough. At present, this Trough is extending from eastern parts of the country up to south peninsula across South Chhattisgarh. Although, the northern point of this Trough keeps oscillating between East Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, it continues to pass via Chhattisgarh.

Due to this Trough, scattered light to moderate rain will continue over the state for next two days. Thereafter, rains will taper over the region.

Another spell is expected around June 13, however, during that period too, rains will remain confined only to southern districts , while the northern districts such as Korea, Surajpur, Balrampur, Surguja, Bilaspur and Khorma will continue to witness dry weather conditions.

In fact, isolated pockets such as Bilaspur and its adjoining areas might come under the grip of heat wave during the next two to three days.

The state of Chhattisgarh has remained 57% rain deficient so far, according to the data available with Skymet from March 1 to June 6. This is because pre- Monsoon rains have remained mostly confined to southern districts of the state, while northern districts have witnessed pre-Monsoon showers only on few occasions.

According to Skymet Weather, Monsoon arrives in southern districts of Chhattisgarh like Bastar, around June 10. However, as the onset has been already delayed over Kerala, the state of Chhattisgarh would too observe a delay in Monsoon arrival by one week or so.
