Assam floods continue to be a matter for concern as death toll increase. As per media reports, seven more people have lost their lives in the floods due to which now the toll has increased to a whopping 34 people.
While one person was killed due to landslide in the region, the other six lost their lives due to drowning. As per a report from the disaster management authority, at least 1.2 lakh people have been affected in 20 districts of Barak as well as Brahmaputra valleys.

The last 24 hours also saw some moderate to heavy showers. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Goalpara witnessed 100 mm of rain, Dibrugarh recorded a whopping 74 mm of rain followed by heavy rains of 70 mm in North Lakhimpur. Other areas to have received good rains include Dhubri 16.2 mm, Golaghat 24 mm, Jorhat 18.4 mm, Mazbat 22.8 mm, and Tinsukia 15 mm.
These heavy rains are expected to continue for another 24 to 48 hours over the state. In fact, neighbouring states of Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura are also likely to witness moderate to heavy Monsoon showers.

Relief in the form of rains is only expected over the region after 48 hours when heavy rains are likely to take a backseat.
As per reports, about 2,000 villages remain submerged in water. As far as agriculture is concerned, over a million hectares of crop area has been affected. Not only this, over 18,000 people have been displaced due to floods and are currently in shelter camps.
