Delhi rains had not made an appearance with a bang since a very long time. So much so that the month of August had been a rather slow one as far as rains are concerned.
However, with the Monsoon trough shifting closer to Delhi and the system that has weakened is also in close proximity of the system, Delhi rains have made a comeback with showers being heavy in many parts of the national capital.
Moreover, rainfall activity has been going on over many parts of Delhi and the NCR region since late night hours. Heavy downpour has been continuing over many parts of Delhi NCR. with very heavy rain over Faridabad since 3 am. Waterlogging has also been observed over parts of the national capital with traffic jams likely to be seen.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Safdarjung recorded a whopping 138.8 mm, which is the highest 24 hour rainfall for this Monsoon season. Similarly, heavy rains were seen over Lodhi Road 149 mm, Ridge 149.2 mm, Palam 84 mm, and Aya Nagar 68.2 mm.
Talking about all time highest rain records in August, for Safdarjung it stands at 184 mm recorded on August 02 in 1961 and Palam at 183.6 mm on August 06 in 1963.
As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, Delhi rains are expected to continue for the next 2-3 days with varied intensity. These showers may see a complete break only around August 24. Rains may not be as heavy as today but the possibility of a few heavy spells on various occasions cannot be ruled out. These showers will see a gradual decrease though with rainfall activity being on the lighter side on August 23.
