Bhubaneswar rains fail to bring down soaring MercuryGood rains lashed Bhubaneswar as Cyclone Roanu lingered along the East Coast. So much so that the city received a good 32 mm of rain on May 20. During this time, temperatures witnessed a significant drop and the maximum was recorded at a mere 27 degrees Celsius, which happens to be 10 degrees blow the normal levels.

However, as the cyclone faded away after throttling Bangladesh with heavy rains, temperatures in Odisha witnessed a rise once again. The city remained dry for two days and the maximum crossed the 36-degree mark making weather conditions worse once again.

A cyclonic circulation was over Gangetic West Bengal. From this system, a feeble trough was extending up to the Odisha coast. The combined effects of these systems resulted in good rains over Bhubaneswar on May 23. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Bhubaneswar recorded 10 mm of rainfall.

While the residents of the capital city of Odisha expected to heave a sigh relief, mercury soared even further. The maximum temperature of Odisha reached 40.5 degrees which is 4 degrees above the normal levels.

Now, weather conditions will become dry over Bhubaneswar and maximums are expected to witness further increase. In fact, the city may come under the grip of intense heatwave soon.
