Biting cold wave to engulf Northwest India, Mercury in Delhi to slip to 3 degrees soon

December 25, 2018 2:26 PM |

Winters in India Although a delayed one but thick of winters has gripped most parts of North India. Hills have already been battling freezing point temperatures and it is now turn for the plains to bear the same.

According to Skymet Weather, a significant drop of 2-4 degrees have been witnessed across the plains of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan during the last 24 hours. Prior to this, marginal improvement was seen in temperatures on account of changing wind pattern, but they are all set to drop again now.

As per weathermen, chilly northwesterly winds have been blowing across the northwestern plains that had resulted in drop in minimum temperatures. These winds will continue to blow unabatedly with increased wind speed. As a result, night temperatures would witness a further drop. Not only this, day temperatures would now also take a dip over most parts of the region.

In the next two to three days, freezing weather would engulf entire plains of Northwest India, including the national capital. Both day and night temperatures are likely to settle down well below the normal average, leading to cold wave to severe cold wave conditions.

Cold wave is declared when the normal of any given city in the plains is less than 10°C and is settling below the normal range by 4-6 degrees.

Not only this, chances of frost are very much likely across Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan during the morning. This could pose dangerous threat to the farmers as it may damage the crop.

Delhi NCR would also be very soon witnessing its lowest temperature of the season, as we expect mercury to soon reach 3°C or even beyond that in the coming days. Hence, people across the region must gear up for extremely chilly night and very cold days by the New Year Eve.
